Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative (IREI)

As part of its mandate to increase the availability of renewable energy and reduce community reliance on diesel, YDC is providing support for small-scale, community-led renewable energy projects.

Yukon Development Corporation will engage with First Nations, communities, and private-sector organizations to reduce Yukon’s reliance on fossil-fuels to generate electric and heat energy for our homes and businesses.

The initiative may provide a maximum of 75% of eligible expenses or a maximum of $500,000 per project, whichever is less. IREI is open to a broad range of Yukon-based organizations, including:

  • Municipal Governments
  • First Nation Governments
  • First Nation Development Corporations
  • Community Societies or Associations
  • Community-based businesses

The focus of IREI is on the use of established or proven technologies using renewable energy sources for the Yukon-based generation of electrical or heat energy. These would include:

  • Photovoltaic solar panels
  • Solar thermal collectors
  • Wind turbines
  • Biomass
  • Gasification
  • Run-of-River hydro

Preference will be given to those projects that can demonstrate that their implementation will result in a direct and significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Proponents are subject to an application and review process. Application to the fund does not guarantee acceptance.
